While first trimester is crucial for the development of all the organs for baby, 2nd trimester is the time for all organs to grow mature.
During 2nd trimester, all the checkup are just amazing. It never failed to WOW us everytime when we go for our routine monthly checkup. Ahem, excuse us for first time parent. :). I used to think that being pregnant for 9 months feel very long, but wait till I saw the growth of the baby. Baby grows at an incredible rate inside the womb.
In my 2nd checkup, my baby was 10.2mm, and after 4 weeks, when we went for our 3rd checkup, baby has grown to 60.2mm! That's 6x growth in 4 weeks. And later on, they don't use length to measure the baby's size anymore, it got upgraded to 161gm on the 16th week! By then, we saw our baby's little limbs and little body happily growing inside mummy's womb. The feeling was just indescribale.
On my 20th week, my baby has grown from 161gm to 366gm. That's more than double. And baby continues to grow to 714gm after 4 weeks! Imagine the growth rate. We could see a bigger baby inside the womb now. And baby is taking up all the space inside me!
Dr Karen is a very kind doctor. She'll spend time to explain and show us all the organs - from the kidney, to the lungs, to the fingers. She'd also count the fingers and said see - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 fingers.... I think she's cute sometimes. :)
Having EG as a typical engineer who asks a lot of questions, my ultrasound session always takes longer as the daddy-to-be always has many questions to ask - like what's the baby's position now? what's the baby doing now? how's the baby sleeping now? etc etc... Sometimes I think he'd just take over the ultrasound machine and do the scanning as long as he likes.
Every checkup is such a relief when we know that baby is growing fine inside me. And every checkup makes us more and more excited for the arrival for our little angel.
